Dungeons & Dragons for Recovery

April 1, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is an improvisation, role-playing experience in which the recovery group’s main goal is to HAVE FUN.  The Adventurers will also enjoying a cathartic and therapeutic time likely to stir up a surprising amount of self-awareness, self-discovery and esteem building.  No experience needed. All levels welcome!

This is the first of a series of Dungeons & Dragons for Recovery experiences which CRA’s Recovery Community Center will offer.  This first group will be approximately 2.5-3hrs long with time for breaks, informative education on what D&D is and how to play it, character creation and playing the game!  We will also have SNACKS (thank you, CRA!)!!

The typical format of the group will be a 2 hour session, every other week, for 7 sessions, likely breaking for the summer months and re-grouping in the fall for a new campaign.  Succeeding sessions will be broken up into new player welcome and education (30min) and check ins with each recovery adventurer about their week (20 min.). The next hour is spent playing D&D.

“Through tabletop role-playing games like D&D, players learn to better understand teamwork and character strengths of themselves and others. It provides an opportunity for increased mindfulness, as players think through their decisions as their characters rather than as themselves. Attendees will strengthen their skills in communication, socialization, creativity and adaptability. Adults of all backgrounds and levels of role-playing experience are welcome to play!” -Centerstone, D&D Experiential Therapy Group
