Building Roots

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation.

It happens when people find connection. When they discover hope in someone else’s story. When they walk through a door and realize they belong.

For years, Community Recovery Alliance (CRA) has worked to ensure that people across Northern Michigan have access to peer support, recovery resources, and a welcoming recovery community. Every day, we witness lives transformed when individuals find the support, encouragement, and opportunities they need to build meaningful lives in recovery.

Today, we have an opportunity to create something lasting.

Through our Building Roots of Recovery campaign, CRA is raising funds to establish a permanent Recovery Community Center for Northern Michigan. After unexpectedly losing our previous location, we were presented with a rare opportunity: the chance to purchase a building and create a permanent home for recovery in our community.

This project reflects how CRA operates in practice – responding to real community need, adapting quickly when circumstances change, and acting on opportunities that strengthen long-term recovery infrastructure.

Community Recovery Alliance is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, EIN 83-2500307. All donations are tax-deductible absent any limitations on the deductibility applicable to a particular taxpayer. No goods or services were provided in exchange for your contribution.

Donor Levels

Every gift tells a story. Whether you give anonymously, in memory of someone you love, or through an in-kind contribution, your generosity is welcomed and honored. In-kind donations of eligible construction materials and supplies will be recognized on our giving tree. We will always recognize your gift in the way that feels right to you.

Founding Roots Partner — $10,000 or more

Six available

Roots are invisible to most — but without them, nothing stands. As a Founding Roots Partner, your gift forms the permanent foundation of Northern Michigan’s recovery community center. These are the gifts that make everything else possible, and your name will be woven into the roots of our donor tree for generations to come.

Heartwood Donors— $5,000–$9,999

Eight available

Heartwood is the dense inner core of a tree — the oldest, strongest wood, the part that gives the tree its structure and connects the roots to everything above. Heartwood donors are the structural backbone of this campaign, and your recognition on the trunk of our donor tree reflects the central role your gift plays in bringing this vision to life.

Bough Builders — $2,400–$4,999

Ten available

The boughs are the primary branches that grow directly from the trunk — connecting the tree’s core strength to everything it reaches. As a Bough Builder, your gift extends CRA’s reach into the community and helps connect more people into the circle of recovery. Represented on the thickest central branches of our donor tree. (A gift of $2,400 can be made as $200 per month.)

Branch Builders — $1,000–$2,399

fifteen available

New growth happens at the branches — reaching further, welcoming more, expanding the canopy year after year. Branch Builders represent the forward momentum of this campaign, extending CRA’s presence deeper into the Northern Michigan community. Represented on the new growth branches of our donor tree. (A gift of $1,200 can be made as $100 per month.)

Red Leaves — $500–$999

Every leaf plays a role in sustaining the tree. Red leaf donors are part of the vibrant, living canopy of CRA’s recovery community — visible, vital, and beautiful. Represented by a red leaf on our donor tree.

Amber Leaves — $250–$499

Amber leaf donors bring warmth and color to our community tree, representing the season of change and the hope that comes with new beginnings. Represented by an amber leaf on our donor tree.

Green Leaves — $100–$249

A tree’s strength is measured not just by its roots and trunk, but by the fullness of its canopy. Green leaf donors make that canopy possible — and every leaf matters. Represented by a green leaf on our donor tree.

Building Community

The Future of CRA

This will be more than a building.

It will be a place of belonging. A community of recovery.

A place where someone attending their first recovery meeting feels welcomed. Where families find support and education. Where people in recovery can build friendships, develop leadership skills, access resources, and discover new opportunities. A place where community members can gather, learn, and help reduce the stigma that too often prevents people from seeking help. The new center will create a stable, accessible, and visible recovery hub that strengthens the entire recovery ecosystem across Northern Michigan. Most importantly, this center will belong to the recovery community. Every brick, every room, and every conversation that takes place inside will be made possible by people who believe recovery matters. By individuals, families, businesses, foundations, and community partners who understand that recovery changes lives and strengthens communities. Community Recovery Alliance is governed by the recovery community itself, ensuring this space remains rooted in the voices, experiences, and leadership of the people it serves. We are currently $95,000 away from finishing what our community started together. Your gift at any level – whether $500, $5,000, or more – will help complete construction and ensure this center opens fully equipped to serve the people who need it most.
